TQ2 está diseñado para ser un extintor superior a FAM, HEX, TET, JOE, TF2 y rodamina 6G. TQ2 tiene (a). absorción mucho más fuerte; (b). mayor eficiencia de extinción; y c). formas reactivas versátiles con la solubilidad deseada para marcar oligonucleótidos y péptidos. Este producto TQ2 se utiliza principalmente para el marcaje de oligonucleótidos durante la síntesis.

La síntesis de oligonucleótidos se lleva a cabo mediante la adición gradual de residuos de nucleótidos al 5′-terminus de la cadena en crecimiento hasta que se ensambla la secuencia deseada. Cada adición se denomina ciclo sintético y consta de cuatro reacciones químicas: desbloqueo (destritilación), acoplamiento, tapado y oxidación.
